Consolidate Your Learning

Congratulations!!! You’ve made it to the end!! Great job!!

I have found this final exercise incredibly helpful for consolidating my learning when I’ve taken classes, so I want to offer it to you here. Before you start, you’ll want to grab all of your handouts and notes that you’ve taken related to the course.

And you’ll want some fresh notepaper to write on or a google doc open!

Got ’em? Ready! ok!

Set a timer for 15 minutes for this thought exercise. Pretend like you know for sure you are going to lose this notebook in the next couple of days, but you don’t want to lose the lessons you’ve learned. Comb through all your notes, highlight those that you want to be sure to remember no matter what. Transfer those notes over to your new paper or document. If you need a little more time, that’s ok, but the idea is to really pin it down to the most important things.

Then celebrate that you’ve done that. Maybe give yourself a high five for all you’ve learned?

Then….we’re gonna do it again! Set a timer for another 5 minutes. Go through the new document you just created and pretend like you’re going to lose that, too! Highlight the most important lessons you want to be absolutely sure you’re going to remember, and transfer those to a new document or piece of paper.

Then…if you’re willing, transfer your top 2 or 3 most important lessons learned to the comments section here, to cement your learning, and also to pay it forward as inspiration to those who will follow in your footsteps!

Congratulations! You did a great job learning and growing!!!
